US President Donald Trump denied, once again, that the United States is a target of Russia. The answer given to journalists in Washington on Wednesday contradicts investigations by the country's intelligence service that accuse Moscow of targeting the US electoral system.
The way in which Trump denied being in Russia's sights, however, led the White House to launch another denial.
That's because a reporter asked if the president believed that the Russians "are still targeting" the United States. Trump nodded and said no. The journalist insisted on the question: "No? Do not you think that's the case?" The president again denied.
Contrary to Trump's response, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders reported that the "no" dealt with other issues - not about the alleged interference of the Russians in the US election.
"The president was saying he would not answer any more questions," said Sarah Sanders, a White House spokeswoman. "The president and his administration are working hard to ensure that Russia is not able to intrude on our elections as they have in the past."
